About
Amanda Kye Tan is a Singaporean conductor and violinist whose work spans performance, education, and entrepreneurship. Currently a conductor of the Kids’ Philharmonic Orchestra (Singapore) and the Singapore University of Social Sciences Philharmonic, she earned her Master of Music (Conducting) from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee (USA), where she studied with Bruce Hangen, alongside studies in violin with Lynn Chang and dance conducting with Geneviève Leclair. She also holds a Bachelor of Music (Violin) from the Royal College of Music (London), and a Specialist Diploma in Orchestral Conducting from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore). Amanda is a 2022 recipient of the Singapore National Arts Council Arts Scholarship.Amanda made her conducting debut in 2019 at the Singapore Chinese Orchestra’s workshop-concert, under the mentorship of Tsung Yeh. The following year, she was appointed Conducting Fellow of the Braddell Heights Symphony Orchestra. Expounding upon her interest in community music-making, Amanda founded the Last Minute Orchestra, a venture orchestra dedicated to performance and networking opportunities beyond traditional boundaries. Internationally, Amanda has participated in masterclasses by Jorma Panula, Sian Edwards, Neil Varon, Peter Stark, Apo Hsu, Sarah Ionnaides, and Dianne Wittry, and assisted Codrut Birsan in Chicago Summer Opera’s 2023 production of Le Nozze di Figaro.During her time in the US, Amanda worked closely with Boston Symphony Orchestra musicians Robert Sheena and Owen Young by conducting and assisting their orchestral repertoire classes. She also co-founded the Boston Conservatory Pops Orchestra, leading concerts of film and video game repertoire, in collaboration with Berklee College of Music’s Screen Scoring Department.Besides freelancing as an orchestral violinist, Amanda is also active as an educator, teaching music history and conducting at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, and writing scripts for classical music duo Twoset Violin.

Amanda offers private violin lessons taught in the comfort of your home. Many of her students have attained distinctions in the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) examinations, as well as offers from secondary school music programs and college extracurricular activities. Her decade-long teaching experience ranges from children as young as 2, to working adults learning for leisure.Amanda believes in learning the violin holistically and covers music theory and music history during lessons. Students are also invited to perform for their peers in occasional studio recitals.The studio is a proud partner of The Happy Violinist, and is accepting students on selected afternoons and evenings.Please contact Amanda for more information.
